CLOI’s program, Tap Into Experience (TIE), funded generously through AmeriCorps, has been created to prepare non-profit organizations (NPOs) to use professional-level volunteers more effectively to accomplish their Missions.
Many Chicago area nonprofits are struggling to meet community needs in a difficult economy where resources are increasingly scarce.
CLOI offers a unique way to ease the strain on nonprofits by tapping talented older adults. The world of volunteering is changing, especially for people over age 50. There are more than 78 million people in this age group and many of them want to volunteer. But they rarely want to make phone calls or stuff envelopes. They're looking for roles that are meaningful, give them a sense of purpose, provide flexibility, are short-term and project based.
How can your organization leverage the vast knowledge and years of experience that this population offers?
CLOI's “Tap Into Experience” – (TIE) program develop non-profits, with the assistance of older adult mentors, to examine what barriers may exist within your organization that preclude you from recruiting, training and retaining talented older adults who can help address the needs of your organization and community.
CLOI will help organizations to:
-
Assess your organizational infrastructure and culture
-
Assess how the organization deals with change
-
Assess organizational and staff perceptions about working with skilled volunteers
-
Identify areas where your organization can utilize experienced volunteers
-
Assess your current volunteer program
-
Learn to recruit and retain these talented volunteers
-
Create an environment that welcomes and retains talented volunteers
This program was created out of the lessons learned from the Count Me In! program.
